| Only
traffic logged by the proxy server is monitored.
As inGOT relies solely on the logs of the proxy server
to maintain account information, all access that you wish to charge
for must be through the proxy server (either MS Proxy Server or
Novell BorderManager). For workstations using the MS Proxy Client
software, network traffic through MS Proxy Server's Winsock component
is charged for, but URLs are not accurately logged. Traffic through
the standard Web Proxy component is accurately logged.
National traffic is identified by the country code.
National traffic is identified by the destination URL ending in
the configured country code, for example ".nz" for New
Zealand. Requests with no domain information, i.e. with no "."
in the URL are treated as local or intranet requests and are never
charged for. All other traffic, including all IP Address URLs, are
treated as being international.
If '.us' (United States) is selected as the country code, all URLs
with a top level domain of 3 or more letters ('.com', '.org', etc.)
is regarded as national traffic.
This scheme is not always entirely accurate since many sites with
a top level domain such as '.com' are hosted in countries other
than the United States. In such a case, if inGOT is configured
with '.nz' as the national country code, a URL ended with '.com'
will always be regarded as international traffic even if it is actually
hosted in New Zealand. Unfortunately, proxy server logs provide
no other clues on the actual hosting location of a web site.
InGOT is not an NT/2000 service.
InGOT is an application and is not implemented as an NT/2000
service. The console of the workstation or server that inGOT
runs on must remain logged in with a user id with sufficient access
rights for inGOT to access all the resources it needs.
The machine should be secured from unauthorised access both by physical
means and by use of a screensaver lock.
InGOT does not monitor traffic in real-time.
InGOT does not monitor requests to the Internet in real-time
therefore it cannot be used for functions such as blocking access
to specific URLs. Typically, the proxy server will have facilities
to do this.
InGOT charges for usage purely on a volume basis. Because
it is not monitoring in real-time, it is not able to charge for
usage on a time basis.
MS Proxy Server does not log its own Internet requests.
Proxy Server does not monitor the requests between itself and the
Internet, only requests between each user's browser and the Proxy
Server.
